SPINEL

spinelle1.jpg

Spinel enjoys a broad range of natural tones. Long confused with ruby due to its intense red hue, it also comes in blue, violet, brown and orange. Green spinel can be so dark that it reaches an almost opaque black color. Jewelers appreciate and happily use this fine stone for the wealth of shades that it offers them as well as its brilliance.

Like the English crown, an engagement ring proudly displays a beautifully colored spinel. Several tones can feature side by side on the same item of jewelry, making it an original, bespoke piece.

Spinel comes from deposits spread all over the world: Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tanzania, and Tajikistan. Softer than ruby, which it may resemble, it presents a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale.
